Big Sky Trailhead

Good intermediate trail, approximayely 4 mile loop.

Moderate trail with great views of Big Sky. A convenient loop that will take a couple of hours. Perfect for a Sunday morning walk.

The trail starts at the intersection and meanders behind homes elevated high above to your left. To your right, the last open section of the North Simi Drain. Continue on around the houses and cross the trickling runoff, there was only seasonal water here before the houses were built. Creat the small hill and you will come to a fork, the straight way up the hill is the original ranchers road, to your left is the loop you will return on. Climbing the hill is arduous, but well worth the views. Hiking along the spine of the mountain, look to your left; among those houses a 50,000 year old Mastodon was uncovered during construction, to your right; the abandoned golf course, but great views of the city beyond.nAt your first fork, make a right as a left will take you precariously to Legends Drive. You will come to the upper portion of Swift Fox, which you can follow down through Young Wolf and pick up the returning trail on Legends, but we'll continue up Swift Fox to the true upper loop of the Big Sky Trail following the spine of the hill to the north. This is a less used trail, but it is quiet and peaceful. Follow almost to Lost Canyons, where the trail will veer left along the side of the hill to Young Wolf. Follow Young Wolf down to a left on Legends and shortly the trail will begin again on the right. Many of these oaks we here when I was growing up running through these barren hills and they were a great place to finally get to to find shade.nCross Legacy and follow back to the trailhead.
