My nephew was transferred to Aurora from the hospital on a 51/50 hold in the beginning of October. He was schizophrenic and for almost 12 years we had tried to get him help, but he always refused because in his mind there was never anything wrong with him, it was us. So when he was committed we were so relieved because we knew he was finally going to get the help he needed. The doctor and nurses were very kind and would give us regular updates to how he was doing in any positive changes they would see in his behavior and personality. Since my sister had power of attorney regarding anything involving my nephew she was kept informed of everything that was going on with him. So when he was ready to be discharged they spoke with her and told her what they had planned for when he was to go home and they also included the instructions on the paperwork paperwork. The two main things were they would authorize the refill on his medications but may were supposed to call to set up over the phone therapy sessions with him, both were obviously very critical in his continuing care. There's some time went by they never called to set an appointment for therapy so my sister called to set that up and she never heard back from them. And then when we tried to refill his prescription the pharmacy told us they were waiting for authorization from the doctor. We both thought that was a little strange that had taken so long so my sister called Aurora and she was told the doctordid not authorize a refill nor would he authorize one. He needed to get the medications from another doctor.nnWe were/are in complete shock. For the first time in 12 years he was medicated, and he was starting to stabilize and on the paranoid behavior was becoming less and less. And because the doctor would not give him just one more refill he is slipping back to how he was. Everyone knows you can't just start then stop medications like that. my sister was told that all these instructions were on the paperwork and we both read the paperwork again and they were not. Had we have known that another doctor was going to be responsible for continuing his medication we would have been on that right away scheduling an appointment. It's hard enough making an appointment with a new doctor that isn't scheduled for a couple weeks after you originally called, but right now with the pandemic it's even harder to get a quick appointment, and with the holidays it's nearly impossible. It's cruel and unfair to him that they gave him the gift of having stability and a brain that was starting to have normal thoughts again only to take it away simply because the doctor would just not say yes to one more refill to give us a little bit of time to set something else up for him.

I was admitted almost two years ago for 2 weeks and this hospitalization changed my life for the better. I was ready to die and was admitted at the perfect time. I made a lot of positive relationships with the staff and one staff member in particular inspired me to get better. He helped plant a seed that I’ve blossomed from since and I made a promise to him which is why I haven’t hurt myself in almost 22 months now. I’m glad that I was hospitalized when I was.

I loved the staff and the caring nature of this facility. At a hard time in my life I found people who believed in me and my purpose. I’m so thankful to the angels I met during my stay ud83dudc95

A dear friend of mine walked into your facility looking for help a few night ago and was told they had no beds and turned her away. The next morning she took her own life. This place needs to be held accountable. They could've done more to help her. Why not find an available hospital, why not call and ambulance, or send her home with any type of help. They killed her and the staff who sent her home should be ashamed. My cousins had also be admitted here and they refused to let her bring any of her comforts in with her. None of her stuffed animals or anything that reminds her of home. She was transferred out shortly after and taken to a better hospital. If I could give aurora 0 stars I would.

I was at Aurora a couple of years to ago as a 51/50 then a 52/50. I was there for 14 days. And my experience was very positive. The staff all in all we’re great. There were two staff members one I think she was a watcher of the group I guess that’s what she would be and she referred to all of us as being the crazies. Which I didn’t appreciate. And then during the exercise part in the basketball court the staff took over all the balls and the patients were left watching. I also didn’t realize when I was admitted that they wouldn’t make my issues away.?!. They just gave you life skills to handle it. It helped a little but I was expecting a little bit more out of the sessions. I also went to the outpatient side for about three months, traveling 3 hours each day to get to Santa Rosa. All the staff there was wonderful. Allison and I believe Jennifer was her name were outstanding. I would recommend Aurora to anybody. As it was in 2018
