The Pond Farm Retrospective now in the Gallery until April 10th is not to be missed. The pottery here is representative of the craft that Marguerite Wildenhain taught at Pond Farm. The pieces are dynamic, sculptural, and top of the line in their craft. Not many potters have the depth of purpose that Marguerite created in these potters. These bold men and women have sacrificed for their craft in ways that people today can hardly imagine. What these dedicated craftsman are left with is a sense of wholeness, nature, and purpose to bring alive a lump of clay into a vital, imagined piece of their own creativity; their authentic purpose for being. The pottery in this show is an imagined beauty that is rarely seen in one place.

Healdsburg Center for the Arts is a mouthful of name for what appears to be a rather small gallery showing several artists and media simultaneously.nnI always love the glass work and pottery, both of which, regardless of the current artists, is exquisite, imaginative, and affordable. Past those you may find jewelry, classic oil or water color painting, textile sculpture, handmade paper, or most anything small enough to fit the limited wall space.nnBut as you start talking with the on-duty resident artist/docents you'll discover this little gallery is a portal opening up access to much more art and many more artists. The Center not only hosts multiple juried shows per year but also facilitates longer term art placement in other local venuees.nnThe Center also puts on it's annual Healdsburg Arts Festival, which brings to the town center dozens of artists in many media.nnSo don't just pop in and out. Engadge someone - anyone - in conversation and you'll soon be a part, whether active or passive, creator or consumer, of the broad canvas of HCA.
