Downsides:nLike most other people mentioned, the bathrooms and locker rooms are pretty gross - I know the custodians work hard and it's definitely not their fault, it's just that many students don't care about keeping the place clean. How much you enjoy a class, sadly, is usually based on which teacher you get. Most classes in a certain class subject teach the same lessons (for example, most like a project you're doing in your science class, your friend from a different team is doing the same thing), and there are some teachers (not naming names) I've had that are nice, but incredibly boring. Also every teacher grades differently. I've had teachers who are a little too nice at grading and it's very easy to get a high score, and some who are harsh graders and it's almost impossible to reach proficiency.nnPositives:nEvery staff member I've met is very nice and the environment is overall positive, and most students are kind and accepting to others. Although I have a few teachers whom I prefer over others, they all care about their students and are willing to talk to them. Same with the counselors -- they are supportive and listen to what you have to say. The electives program is also great! There is a high chance that you will get into that one elective you want. Unfortunately, you cannot choose electives until you are in seventh grade, but that makes sense due to wheel. (Side note: my favorite class currently is yearbook. I highly suggest signing up for it if that's your kind of thing).nnYeah I won't give any information about me because one, I still go to this school, and two, it's kind of obvious who I am if you know me.
Great team of staff! The students are great too. I can tell most of the reviews below are kids reviewing and talking mostly about lockers and bathrooms. I came from a different school district and I can definitely appreciate for many things that happen at this school. People just need to experience different things to really understand and appreciate what they have. A middle school is definitely a place to be exposed to new open doors and opportunity so that the students really advance in high school. Really proud of JLS. A team where they strive to get better each year is definitely a happy place to work at for me.
JLS is a decent school in general, with nice teachers and students. The lunch line food is sort of limited in variety, and the school is governed in a somewhat dictatorship style. But I feel grateful to go here after seeing schools in other school districts, where the middle schools are more run-down.
It's a beautiful place, most of the teachers are amazingly nice, and understanding, and make school and class fun. Art teacher was inspiring, same as 8th grade PE teacher, really helped me out, and I had a bad knee at the time. :) Academic Communications class really helped me when I was struggling to keep up in my classes, and the teacher is one of the nicest I have ever met.nnMy only concern was that the school was always dirty, and there was always trash lying around. But that's about it.
Some teachers are cool if you're on they're good side and the others are bad. PE mile times/grading is rigged and the dances are cool I guess. The bathrooms are kinda disgusting and I sorta wish I went to Terman because the people here.. just ugh. But, I'm almost finished and our choir teacher is awesome
