Beatriz Torres, RPT

It was a great pleasure working with Beatriz. Having tried several other treatment methods before, I've found Schroth to be the most helpful and targeted therapy for scoliosis. Beatriz's decades of experience as a physical therapist in addition to her personal experience with scoliosis make her an excellent teacher. A huge part of scoliosis therapy is about self-education--learning more about the imbalances in my own body and how to maintain in correction during every day activities. At the end of my two week sessions with her, I've come away with a clearer understanding of my own body, a tool kit of scoliosis-specific stretches and exercises to do every day, and most importantly, confidence that in spite of this condition, I can still live a full life and avoid disability when I get older.

I went to see Beatriz Torres for about 1 1/2 years and finished my session two years ago. I was in my late 60s - my spinal curvature and pain were getting progressively worse to the point where I was in pain most of the day. Ms. Torres taught me exercises and postural awareness that I gradually learned to incorporate into my daily routine. I am able to use what she taught me throughout the day and the benefits continue to improve as I more consistently use the principles she taught me. I am extremely grateful for having found her and highly recommend her PT services to anyone who suffers from scoliosis.

I am an orthotist who specializes in scoliosis and spinal deformity. An orthotist is someone who evaluates for and provides braces (orthoses), and I specialize in bracing adults and pediatrics for scoliosis. Although I am not a physical therapist, I believe (and research has shown) that scoliosis specific physical therapy combined with bracing provide better outcomes for patients than bracing alone (although there is little research to show this, I have personally witnessed this.) Although Beatriz teaches a full course about Schroth Best Practice to PT's, she was gracious enough to offer me a modified version to better understand the deformity and hopefully be able to provide better information and guidance to my patients. I 200% feel that Beatriz provided me with these tools and such a better understanding (and more questions haha) of scoliosis from a 2 day course. She is extremely knowledgeable about scoliosis and spinal deformity and really gets into every last detail. My only complaint is that she lives 2 hours away from me which makes it difficult for me to refer my patents to her! However, I feel very fortunate that I found her in searching for Schroth PT's and know that she is only an email away from answering my continued questions. I look forward to working with her in the future. If you have spinal deformity and pain/weakness as a result, I would highly recommend working with Beatriz.

My physical therapy sessions with Beatriz Torres have been nothing short of life changing. I have moderate scoliosis and, until I started working with her, I was having trouble doing day to day activities or even walking. After months of traditional PT failed to alleviate the pain and imbalance I was experiencing, I was referred to Beatriz because of her highly specialized training and knowledge around treating Scoliosis.nnAs one of only a handful of practitioners trained in the Schroth Method in the US, her scoliosis specific approach worked wonders for me, even after the first week of working with Beatriz. She utilizes patient’s cell phones to capture video and photos for reference at home and to give patients a better understanding of their own body mechanics. I found these tools, as well as the detailed notes taken throughout each session, to be especially helpful.nnI work in front of a computer all day and spend most of my free time designing clothes. Treatment with Beatriz has enabled me to do both of those things pain free. In short, if you’re struggling with back issues and want effective results, I highly recommend Beatriz Torres.

I started seeing Beatriz Torres almost 3 months ago. In just this short period, the positive changes I’ve experienced are remarkable. Prior to starting work with Beatriz, I was in pain a lot of the time and having more and more trouble walking any distance. Although I had tried some other avenues to help with my back pain before discovering Beatriz and the Schroth method, none of them had provided relief.nnBeatriz is very knowledgeable, and I’m fortunate to have found her. She has taught me exercises that are individually customized for my scoliosis curves, as well as postural corrections for sitting, standing, and lying down. I’ve also learned (and am still learning) how to approach the activities of daily living (ADLs) while correcting my postural alignment, and how to strengthen my whole body. In addition, Beatriz is patient, personable, and generous with her time and her energy; I always look forward to seeing and working with her.nnA few weeks ago I took a trip to New York where—aided with trekking poles—I walked all around the city. I haven’t been able to do this in a long time and I was thrilled. My sister—whom I hadn’t seen in a year—commented on how much better I’m moving. At this point I am also able to walk with little or no pain without the aid of my sticks.nnI’m 68-years-old, and working with Beatriz has me looking forward to learning and progressing more.
