Highly recommend Maya’s Legacy. Yesterday I took the morning and afternoon trip with them out of Friday Harbor and had two vastly different and AMAZING experiences. The morning trip was filled with Humpback Whales, Sea Lions, Harbor Seals, Dall’s Porpoises and much more. Captain Alan and Sara were wonderful- incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The created a welcoming and fun atmosphere on the boat and were consistently going the extra mile to show us as much wildlife as possible.nnThe afternoon trip was just as spectacular- but filled with different wildlife. We had the honor of following the K-Pod (17 whales) from the Northwest most corner of the US. Again we have had Capital Alan at the helm but April was our dedicated naturalist- both were again wonderful.nnThe staff has a vast amount of knowledge and is more than willing to share. You can tell by talking to all of them how passionate they are about the creatures they teach you about and how respectful they are to not disturb them.nnBoth trips were on the “J2” boat which was really 10/10- very clean, not a bad seat and easily opens up when you get one scene of wildlife.nnMy booking experience was also effortless, I called the office to ask some questions and then ended up booking online. Maya’s Legacy has great communication emails at book and prior to your trip. Hands down would recommend them to anyone visiting the island.
This was such a beautiful tour. I loved how personal and intimate the experience was. We were on a smaller boat with only a few other customers and got to spend a lot of time learning about the various species we were seeing from the Naturalist, April, who was amazing. I also really appreciate the conservation mission of Maya's! This was by far my favorite whale watching tour out of many explored in the Washington and California regions.
We have used Maya’s multiple times and look forward to every trip. We like the smaller boats and any time we have 4 or more people in our group we reserve the entire boat for ourselves which makes it your own private tour. You have the naturalist all to yourself to ask questions or listen to. Call and check the price, its not as much as you might think and its well worth it. We even had a wedding on one of their boats a couple of years ago. The captains and naturalist all love what they do and the know the waters and wildlife around the island very well and we have always seen whales. We have seen whales on every trip I suppose it happens that you don’t. We love to take the last trip of the day so we can watch the sunset on our way back. It’s always beautiful. I also don’t bother to take my camera anymore. They always email pictures from your trip and they have much better camera’s that I do.
We went out with Maya’s Legacy Whale Watching over Labor Day weekend and had an amazing time. We got to witness the J and L pods of the Southern Resident population having a big gathering. Captain Jeff and April made this experience very memorable and I would highly recommend going with them. They were also super great about enforcing masks to remain on during the entirety of the trip (went in COVID) and social distancing as much as possible on a boat.
Such a great experience! Absolutely breath-taking! They were wonderful and made it the best birthday. We spent two hours with so many orcas and made memories to last a lifetime! They educated us all throughout the day. We will definitely book with them again. Thanks for the great experience!
