Just returned from a six day cycling/camping trip on the San Juan Islands and it was excellent. The routes enabled us to see three of the islands in all of their splendor. It was a great time of year to go as the temperature was moderate, both day and night, and it was bug free. Krista, our guide not only met, but anticipated all of our needs and was fun to be with. I am used to planning my own tours and i am ruined for life.

If you are thinking of biking the San Juan Islands with an outfitter, these are your people. This is a local group and this is all they do. That means you get people who know and love this area, and a trip at a much more affordable rate than the others we price. We went on a 4 day camping trip in August. It was fabulous!! Our guide was a delightful ball of energy and a fantastic cook. The food was fantastic, they really read our bios and planned meals accordingly. Most clean eating vacation I have ever had. The camp grounds were very nice, tents and sleeping bags that were provided were great. We loved biking around the islands, which were stunningly beautiful, and stopping at all the interesting places. The rides were hillier than I anticipated. I could have trained more for them. If I had it to do over again, I would have upgraded to a road bike. Hope to go back again.

My son and I went on a 5 day bike and hike trip with Terra Trek in the San Juan Islands in July of 2017.nThe experience was superb. We were a group of 11 with two guides. The biking was fun, at times challenging and the San Juan Islands were more hilly that I expected. The daily trips were through beautiful rolling countrysides, along breathtaking cliffs and beaches and were planned so that just when one thought that you had enough there was either a short break with snacks and drinks, lunch or a side activity. One day during our ride, we stopped a a local lavender farm for photos and time to visit the retail shop, another day we stopped at a working alpaca farm and yet another day at a local pottery. We biked an average of 5 hours a day which was perfect.nOur two guides were friendly, helpful and professional. They seemed to have a perpetual smile on their faces and were having as much fun as we were. Every day one of our guides prepared a fresh lunch for us, usually a fresh salad and protein and/or sandwiches on freshly baked bread.nThe bikes were Cannondale hybrid bikes in excellent condition and none of us experienced any problems with our bikes during our trip.nWe shared three dinners together, each at the one of the top restaurants that the islands had to offer. We were free to order from the menu and were asked only to pay for our own alcoholic beverages.nI have used Backroads in the past and loved that experience as well, but using a local native company did have distinct advantages. Our guides seemed to know the locals and the hidden places to go to, to break for lunch and the smaller group was definitely a plus.nI would highly recommend Terra Trek for a bike trip in the San Juan Islands without any reservations......5 Star !!!!!
