The best engineering and biomedical education in LBUSD! Lots if unique experiences for students, such as their aerospace program, competition teams and frequent field trips. Experienced staff with unique skill sets. Wouldn't want to go anywhere else!
This was the best experience for transportation of our students. Robert was a fabulous driver, knowledgeable and professional and the bus was prestige.
This is a fantastic high school. There is a small student body with a dedicated staff. The outstanding teachers hold these students to high standards. It is an environment of motivation and achievement. We probably would have gone to Wilson, which is great, don't get me wrong, but it has the population of a small city! For my kid, the setting at Sato is ideal for his concentration, his interests in STEM fields, and like-minded peers.
This school gives me mixed feelings. As most of the reviews are not very serious, I’m providing a serious review from a (current) student. This school has provided me with some amazing experiences, allowing me to take many classes that suit my interests in BioMedical Sciences. Through PLTW, this school has provided me with a world-class education that I will always be grateful for. I have been connected to teachers and assorted educational opportunities that I will always be grateful for (Healthcare Simulation, HOSA, AP Capstone Program). On the other hand, this school has also given me a world of pain. As dramatic as that sounds, this school has significantly impacted my mental health, in a negative way. I have struggled and STRUGGLED through my time at Sato Academy and it has worn on me through my time there. I know other students that are depressed and anxious due to being overwhelmed/overworked. Teachers expect students to just “know things” or figure them out on their own, so, if you need instruction from teachers in order to learn, I do not recommend this school. I recommend this to students that literally fly through school, and excel in mathematics courses, as most of the courses are math-heavy. I was a 4.0 student through middle school and always do my work, but I’m often left working until midnight some nights just to keep up (I have very little time and homework takes me a lo g time). For those thinking of choosing this school, you have been warned. Do not take the reviews of this school lightly. All I can hope is that this school is able to move through its severe growing pains and work for the benefit of the students (before something bad happens).
This school has a VERY heavy workload. But overall this school has many resources that regular high schools don't. For example, the ability to start taking college courses with our connected college, CSULB, in 11th grade. Also, as apart of our Engineering Pathway we offer introduction to engineering where students explore the design process and start developing CAD skills (3D modelling) in 9th grade. In 10th grade we offer principals of engineering which is basically a step up from intro to design. In 11th grade we offer aerospace engineering where we explore robot systems. In 12th grade we offer digital electronics where we explore digital circuits. For the Biomedical Pathway we have a course entitled Human Body Systems where freshman to labs to explore how all the body systems work together. A few other courses related to the biomedical pathway is medical interventions where students explore ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease. Also Anatomy and Physiology is a student favorite. Many pathway classes are geared by PLTW college courses and many of them do count for college credit starting in the 9th grade.nOne of the cons to Sato is that there are no sports so the school can get a little boring due to the lack of fun activities. There is a big variety of clubs at our school and I recommend Key Club, HOSA, Red Cross, RC Flight, and Firebeather Rocketry.nOverall, Sato is an amazing school if you know you want a career in engineering and biomedical science. This school, will get you through college quicker and your studies will be easier. But, if you aren't prepared to forget what outside looks like because you're always doing homework, this school isn't for you. :))
