I hiked the John Muir Trail over three weeks with the Sierra Mountain Center in as part of a group of 8 last August. None of us had met previously.nnTheir guides were really professional and kept us safe, focussed and happy.nnIt was really tough but well worth it with lots of personal firsts and a life enhancing experience. Highly recommended. Fabulous!

I've gone on several back country ski trips with SP Parker and friends. They have been among the most cherished experiences of my life. Physically demanding; amazing country; great times!

Had a fantastic experience with the 3 day Mini mountaineering camp. Guide Dave Simson is extremely knowledgeable and professional. Dave's instruction was crafted well for newbies like myself and he made sure we understand concepts and provided background knowledge whenever possible without it being overwhelming. Safety was always a priority with Dave, which eased my nerves a bit. Would definitely give Sierra Mountain Center my money again for providing quality guides like Dave.

Our group had a great two week experience with the SMC crew (Barb and Louie)! The two overnight trips were fantastic and the ice climbing was the highlight. More trips to come!

Recently, I completed the JMT with SMC in Bishop. First of all, the JMT is a trail every serious backpacker should have on their bucket list. Secondly, if you want a great guide service to avoid the hassle of permits and resupply, I would highly recommend SMC. Their attention to details and focus on the client was impressive. Just an FYI if you are looking at SMC…their information packet claims you will be carrying 10 pounds of group food and gear. Plan on 12-14, even a little more after resupply. Also, it states 8-10 miles per day of hiking. Plan on 10-12. Regarding our guide...she has spent many years climbing and backpacking through the Sierra Nevada's. Her knowledge of the peaks, rivers, valleys, creeks, drainages, etc. added greatly to the experience, as did her contagious energy and enthusiasm. My only issue (also shared by the other participants) was her somewhat regimented and often inflexible approach to breaks and lunches. We were all strong hikers and were never late setting up camp in the evening, yet we were constantly on a strict “schedule”, with verbal reminders and prompts (and sometimes chastised) if we took an extra five minutes for breaks. I am fully aware of the need to conquer a pass before weather makes it dangerous, but even on clear sunny days, the overly disciplined approach became annoying. That said, I would not hesitate to do another trip with her.
