I brought in an extremely clean, unscratched, 1923 Morgan Silver Dollar to possibly trade in for cash. My father was an avid coin collector (who used cotton gloves to handle his coins) and this dollar had been in a plastic case for over 80 years. The man in this coin shop checked my Morgan dollar, and told me he needed to check with someone in back. He took my coin in the back room for a few minutes, then returned to me, a scratched up 1923 Morgan Silver Dollar and told me it wasn't worth anything but the silver. He told me it had been cleaned with a metal brush or something. I know that there were NO scratches on the Morgan dollar I gave him, as I had checked it myself with a 10x glass. If it had been that bad, I don't think he needed to get another opinion. I had no way of proving they had switched my rare excellent coin for different worthless one, but I do believe they stole my valuable coin. A 1923 Morgan in excellent condition could have been worth thousands of dollars. I have no proof, but beware of these dealers.
