Coral Desert Rehabilitation

I did my clinicals here. The residents are so sweet and nice, but the workers are rude. I dreaded Going. Luckily I was Able to go to advance to finish. I feel So bad for the residents. I do not recommend this place to Anyone. I never Saw any managers. When I went To the kitchen to get a resident more food, the cook was wearing sweats and had headphones on seemed like she was talking on the phone, looked right at me and then went into what looked like an office with a computer. I ended up leaving on my break to McDonald’s to bring a hamburger back for the resident. Makes me sick

This is a terrific building with staff who care. They have great therapists and terrific nurses. They have a terrific menu and food options.

We took my ailing mom there because my caregiver dad needed a break. It was supposed to be for 5 days (the length hospices covers). We gave my mom her medication at 10 and then took her to Coral Desert Rehab at 11am. We went over everything with them: what her medications were and when she should have them, that she is an EXTREEM fall risk, and other issues they would need to know. At 8pm my dad called her (we can’t visit due to COVID) and and found out she had not been given a pain pill until 6pm!! She is supposed to get them every 4-6 hours - and it had been EIGHT HOURS!! She was very upset. Also, She has Parkinson’s and while she was there they expected her to behave in ways that advanced Parkinson’s patients just don’t behave. For being a medical facility they should have known better. It was really “Parkinson’s 101” stuff. Nothing complicated. Needless to say my dad went down and got her that moment and brought her home. So much for my dad getting a rest.

On day one they took all my mom's clothes to wash (covid I guess). She waited in her room for 20 minutes before anyone came to settle her in. She's 87 and very weak from being in the hospital for eight days of which she's been on oxygen the entire time. It's a weeknight and I couldn't get anyone to answer a phone. Finally I called my mom again on her cell and said I would wait until a nurse responded so I could talk to them. She needs oxygen! They did get her cpap hooked to it...now four hours after her arrival. I left a message with the director of nursing and never heard back. Early next morning she needed to use the bathroom. After over an hour with no response to her call button she got up and went herself alone..total fall risk. Food is cold. Can't get pain meds timely. And finally on day four realized she still did not have her clothes! This is what happens when you are locked out for covid and cannot advocate for your patient. Nurse checked and they still had not been washed. She had been sitting in same underwear and same bedding for four days no shower no help with personal hygiene. Finally after desperately reaching the coordinator mom started to get some attention. We have a team meeting tomorrow and we'll see if this is addressed satisfactorily. It definitely should be reported to the state board. May be we pull her out. We were hoping her stay would provide the frequent pt she needs for strength but the negligent daily care hasn't been worth it so far. Update. For other medical reasons we pulled her out. Thank goodness. Would never recommend.

Quite possibly the most inept, most unorganized rehab center ever! The care was 2nd rate at best. 2nd night there my mother had to call home to have me call for a nurse because the call button was not left where she could reach it. We complained about it and the cold oatmeal they were serving her and nothing got better! She was not sleeping and they did nothing to remedy that. The doctor made no visits other then on a telepad. This is unacceptable for a 99 year old woman who is very hard of hearing and who needed doctor's care because of her heart and lung issues! I would not recommend this place to anyone that truly cares about a family member! I truly believe the 2nd rate care she was getting hindered her recovery process. I think had we NOT transferred her out she would have had a relapse of the pneumonia and heart issues! Both my sister and I complained to Clint the Exec. Director.. and on the 2nd complaint he stated he was getting "conflicting" stories... he basically accuses us of lying! We simply were trying to get the best care for my mother and felt that it was NOT happening! Evidentially Ensign Group owns several places here in Utah so I would definitely research before choosing! They are a for profit company and it shows... they are more interest in $$ than caring for their patients! We are extremely relieved that she is no longer in this place!
