It’s not a dog friendly. It was our first time with our dog, Labrador Retriver, who likes to swim cause they were bred for fish retrieving. Came in October , so we could walk him there. No hotels or vacations rentals are allowed dogs. Had to go all the way to King George. People are crowding it without social distancing guidance. There was a runners marathons. None of them were masks after or before their run while sitting down and socializing. People approached us to pet a dog while not wearing masks. Police cared more about our dog swimming and were mean to us and the dog, rather then observing people actually breaking COVID guidelines. Fishers stay and fish at the pier for more then posted. Paid for parking 3 hours, had to leave after 2. King George and Caledon State Park are nicer. Not ever coming back. Too bad the money the town invested are only for the police safety and them riding around and hollering at visitors, not for the pleasure of travelers.

Colonial Beach is a golf-cart community!nI had never been to the area before and I had to meet a client there. We got in late and grabbed a bit to eat at a local place and were sitting outside when a bunch of people zipped past. I haven't been in a place that allows people to drive carts around in years. The next day, after meetings, I got to take one for a ride all around town. This is the BEST way to see the area.

Colonial Beach, Virginia, is only about 65 miles from Washington, DC. It is a small town on the Potomac River with a long, sand beach and many marinas. There are two beach tiki bars, waterfront restaurants, a brewery, winery, and food trucks. Special events are held often (several a month), there are trivia, comedy shows, and plays and live music streams through Town during the evenings. But if you are looking for a party atmosphere, this isn't it. No nightclubs and bars close around midnight. Very low-key, casual and family friendly. Watersports in Town and historic sites nearby. Quaint and charming beach and river town.
