Nice book selection. Offers neat programs to residents, like story time for toddlers and book club. I love the neat things available in the kids' section in particular, and that they've almost always got crayons and coloring pictures at the little kid-sized table. I also appreciate being able to reserve a study room free of charge when needed. This library has a lot to offer! My only issue is one particular staff member who shouldn't be working with the public, and she's been there for years, so I've had countless encounters with her. She is abrupt and patronizing. I've come to think of "J" as the "Library Card Police." If I'm not at home when I remember to reserve or renew a book, I don't always have my card on hand (but I don't want to wait until later and forget); I DREAD calling and hearing this woman answer. I know I'll be haggled EVERY time without fail. When I've mentioned to her that I don't want a lecture about not having my card on hand, she reminds me that she doesn't want someone else calling to renew my books or reserve a book in my name. WHO would want to renew MY books?? And if there IS someone trying to RESERVE books under my name (I'm really kind of doubtful in St George, Utah), that person would have to either have my card when they go in to pick up the book(s) OR have my ID. We're talking library books, not bank account fraud!! I understand the reason for the policy...policies are important. And yet the other staff members have always tended to be very helpful, very kind, and very understanding--even when a person doesn't have their card. They just make you verify your identity another way (without a lecture), or have you present your ID if you're actually in the branch. While I don't use the library near as much as I would if I didn't hate calling there so much, I am extremely thankful it's there and grateful to have such an amenity in our amazing community.
