We enjoyed our week long stay. It’s clean and has most of what you need. It’s within walking distance of lots of great restaurants. Our cottage was adjacent to Salty Dog, which got very loud at night and kept the light sleepers up. If we stay here again, I will try to get on the side with cottages 5-8 instead of 1-4, so we aren’t next to Salty Dog. We were in cottage 4, which was the only one that didn’t have a rinse-off shower outside, which seemed weird.nnSilver Sands was between TV services. We were able to watch a guest Netflix account in the living room and the master bedroom, but it wasn’t working in the bunk bedroom. But we couldn’t watch the news in the mornings/evenings. Basic TV service is something you can get at a cheap hotel.nnI do wish that during a longer stay, they would provide additional toilet paper, hand soap, and dish soap than they did. We were there for a week, so we had to buy our own.nnThe barn door in the master bedroom going into the bathroom is finicky and often doesn’t stay completely closed. Another reviewer posted that the sheets don’t fit. They used flat sheets instead of fitted, so they didn’t stay out.nnBut the beds and other furniture were comfortable. There was plenty of storage for us to put our food and clothing.
We checked in on Sunday at4:00.nPM. First impression was great! Super cute furnishings and loved the ship lap. Turns out the AC in our cottage , 6 was not working. We gave it a little while to cool down, but temp continued rising. We called after hours maintenance and they arrived around 10:15pm. The maintenance man ended up going into attic. Soon after he left, COCKROACHES literally came out of the woodwork! In bed, in shower and fell from the ceiling. Hopefully this isn’t the norm for these cottages. I think we just happened to be the “lucky” ones.
Loved it! Cabins were great and the built-in bunk beds were a huge hit with our kids.
We rented the Old Town Cottages from August 6th - 9th. One of the things that attracted us to renting from Silver Sands was their extra “Covid cleaning precautions” which while preventing check- in until 5pm, seemed like a good idea given the environment.nnSilver Sands was very hard to get a hold of leading up to our reservation. Emails were never returned and I had to call, often waiting on hold for a long period of time.nnWhen we arrived, our unit was not ready. We waited until 5:15 for check in as they were still “deep Covid cleaning our condo.” Upon getting into the unit, we found food and sand on the floors, and disgusting bathrooms. Toilets and showers and tubs had not been cleaned AT ALL. Urine and hairs were all over the toilets. The shower was completely full of sand. It hadn’t even been rinsed.nAll the dishes were dirty. We had to completely rewash all the dishes. The “fully stocked” kitchen came with exactly 4 plates and 3 wine glasses and not a lot of cookware. We were given 1 roll of paper towels, 1 dishwasher pod and 2 rolls of toilet paper for a family of four for 4 days. Also no hand soap to speak of. Our bedroom blanket had food on it and there were popcorn kernels all over the floor.nnIn general, the place was very cute, tastefully decorated and in an amazing location. However the very late check in and absolute FILTH will make me never book with Silver Sands again. We’ve been coming to Port A for 15 years and have stayed at numerous rentals. This goes down as the dirtiest and least stocked properly of all (along with least responsive and friendly property manager).
BEAUTIFUL new cottages right in the best of town. Fully equip kitchens , very cleannQuiet and unit 17 includes a golf cart for your entire stay. Can't wait for our next trip back
