I love Eagle Point Nature Preserve. If you are looking for a strenuous hike with lots of hills, this is not the place, but the trails are beautiful and it’s a great place for bird watching. The first time I was there I had the good fortune to be standing next to a tree from which an adult eagle flew out. Epic. Haven’t seen it since, but there’s always next time! Definitely don’t forget the bug spray.

Beware, google maps will point you to the wrong location. The Preserve is East of 85 on high rock lake. Google maps pointed me to a single lane gravel road (will black rd) on the west side of Salisbury.

The wife and I took the dog and hoped to find a scenic walk like we'd seen in photos. There is a map posted at the parking lot of the various trails. I wish we had thought to take a photo of the map, as there are no copies available. After getting underway we were unclear as to trail choices, and our entire morning could be summarized by this: Thirty minutes of walking in a tunnel of trees, followed by five minutes of lake view. Oh, and don't forget the Off repellant.

as a launch for kayaking. A beautiful pristine cove.nnI haven't visited the site since 2005, when a kayaking group I belonged to used it as a take out point The kayak trail is marked a little better and they have a cable system to aide in trolleying your kayak to and from the water. While the idea of the trolley was a good one and possibly workable with kayak that weigh around 40 pounds.... it didn't work for the 67 lb Pescador and 90 lb Native 14.5. The cable was way to low to handle the weight of the kayak, plus the hump I the middle of the path prevented the kayak from reaching it's destination without carrying. My suggestion would be to install a two set taller poles with one taller pole on one side for trolling to the water. Likewise there needs to be a taller pole at the take out, so you can use a zip line effect going back. The simplest solution in the would be to create a gravel path wide enough for a truck or SUV all the way to the water's edge, strictly for unloading only.nnToday's kayaks weigh 30-40 lbs more, so a gravel path makes more since. It really wouldn't take much to improve the launch by 100 percent. A beautiful location which would draw more canoeist and kayakers. You can definitely see more eagles and birds from the water.

Great place for a trail run, we love family hikes here. If you're one of the people who left a bad review for this place and others, yes bring your bug repellent anywhere you go to hike, yes take a photo of the map sign if you have no sense of security direction, and absolutely there will be roots, dirt, and trees - this is for any hiking in a 200 mile radius of ROCO. You're welcome.
