I’ve been going to Dr MatskonFor years as has my entire family from parents to siblings...He listens to you and along with the help of somenAmazing hygienists who go the extra mile to make you comfortable, he does a great job. He saved me from knocking out my front teeth during anSeizure; now I wish they were all porcelain!! However, he is expensive, I am single, never married no kids and I am on disability/ Medicare/ Medicaid, which gives no dental coverage if you don’t have kids. I am currently a bit frustrated; I have severe TMJ; scars on my cheeks inside my mouth from grinding and tensing up my muscles , and just the way my bite is very “off”. After breaking a mouth guard in half, Dr. Matsko was kind enough to prescribe a muscle relaxing agent that helped a myriad of issues both in my mouth and jaw (which I have to pop several times a day or get a migraine, and I have constant headaches and tension in my neck and shoulders), and other tight muscles. Recently, however, he said he couldn’t prescribe it anymore, and that it was more than he could handle in his office, so he referred me to an oral surgeon. I had asked him to please, never refer me to anyone who doesn’t take Medicare/Medicaid; I had told him he would have to phrase his referral in a medical rather than dental way: go into the headaches and muscle tension and spasms, and if his office can make a call to see if someone will accept my referral, it would only take another two minutes to ask if they take Medicare/ Medicaid and to be sure to say I don’t have kids so I have no soecifically dental insurance. However Medicaid would surely pay if I broke my jaw, so there has to be a way around this. When I no longer had any of the medication that works (and he acts like he “can’t” prescribe it which is totally untrue; it’s not even an opiate and while I don’t take opiates, obviously he prescribes then mmm, and they are much higher on the controlled substance scale and certainly far, far, far more abused. When I’ve called after hours having woken up bleeding from biting my cheeks, unable to relax my shoulders, migraine so bad it was hard to look at the phone, rather than prescribe the one muscle relaxant that actually works for me, he’d say “go to the emergency room”. Oh ok, I’m going to drive with a migraine and sit in an ER for hours and hours under fluorescent lights in pain, only to have some doctor I don’t know make up his mind about me before he’s even seen me, since in the Cone/ Epic system, you don’t have to release your records; it’s all just there, hence the doctors who never read an intake form or look up from their laptop to LISTEN, and base their conclusions on what they see and hear that day. Matsko is generally very personable; I don’t know if he got into trouble or what, but I cannot afford an oral surgeon, I only take this medicine on an as needed basis (30 pills lasted me almost three months). It’s not his fault that the Medicaid/ Medicare/Disability and health care is so broken in this country. But as I am broken Physically jaw and bite wise, as my family has paid him tens of thousands of dollars over the years out of pocket to keep my teeth healthy and in my head, as I do not have the money to see a specialist and Medicare/ Medicaid/ disability will not pay for an oral surgeon and my family cannot pay, the least he could do would be to write a prescription for the one, non opioid thing that works!
