It is not for everyone. However it is a great place for a challenge if you are used to being recognized as one of the smartest people in the room, and you are ready to be challenged. When I went here as an undergraduate I was not ready, but I was ready when I went back 15 years later to get a graduate degree. I am an alum, staff member, and faculty member, so I believe in the school and it’s mission.

Two of my children went to college here. UMR (as it’s was known when my son first started) or Missouri S&T (as it is now known) is an absolutely terrific small college in a beautiful rural setting. It is one of the best-kept secrets in the world, where parents can send their kids to a place where they feel safe and welcomed, with peace-of-mind in a pastoral setting - lots and lots of wide open spaces - along with a top notch education and a reputation for excellence. Your kids need to be prepared to work hard & study, but to be warmly welcomed by all & look forward to life-long friendships. You will not be an unknown at Rolla. Everyone matters - another beauty of a small rural school. The classes are small, the professors are top-notch and they truly care about their students. It is an unusually diverse college for a small rural school because of its top-notch engineering and science programs, attracting students from all over the world. Anywhere you go in Missouri, or in the Midwest, knows that “Rolla” grads are the cream of the crop, and are in high demand for jobs. If your kids like nature and the outdoors, it’s a perfect spot. The fresh country air all around you is great for calming stress and invigorating you for your challenges. You just feel healthy here, physically & emotionally. If your kids like city life, they will find it dull, but Saint Louis and all of its great sports, theater, music venues, restaurants, bars & shopping is only 1 1/2 hours drive away. It’s easy to find a ride into the city with someone going home there for the weekend - you’d just have to get an Uber when you get there. Saint Louis has it’s dangerous areas, but the popular spots are well patrolled and the people are generally warm & friendly Midwesterners, & very proud of their city. Both of my kids are doing very well, and off to a great start after preparing for their careers at Missouri S&T.

S&T is amazing! What more could a student want from a school? Great people, great town.

The University is really good in terms of academia. In terms of extra-curricular activities, the university is lacking.

Very good school for engineering degree, they train you hard so you thrive easily. Very inclusive environment for internationals.
