They were super friendly and helpful over the phone! Would advise calling in the afternoon if necessary.
I got a speeding ticket like 4 months ago and have been resetting my court date. I'm a full time student in Brookhaven, so I do not live here, I live an hour away. These people at the front desk could care less about helping me. They were slow and untimely in there positions. It would also be nice if we had a better system for communicating something to the court house, unbelievably slow and irritating to try to contact anyone who could possibly give me a straight answer to my question. Brookhaven cops are jerks.
This place is so disorganized....the whole court system is a joke.
My court arraignment was at 1:00 pm. I showed up at 12:45 pm and didn't leave until 3 hours later. The process is SLOW, but Judge Granade did give us fair warning that it wouldn't be quick. If you get a traffic ticket and you have the time and means to take off work and fight your ticket, by all means--DO IT. My original fine was $350 and 3 points on my license. I got it down to $178 and 0 points.nnThis was my first time fighting a ticket and I really didn't know what to expect. I just want to make a disclaimer that I'm NOT a lawyer!! But for those who know as little as I do, here's some amateur advice and how the process works (from what I saw and understand):nnMake sure you dress appropriately. Don't wear shorts. Wear nice jeans (without holes), khaki pants, slacks, a dress or a skirt with a nice top.nnBring a book to read and make sure your phone is fully charged because you're bound to be there for a while. Even if you're not there for 3 hours like I was, it doesn't hurt to be prepared!nn1. Show up to court on the date that's written on your ticket. If it's 1:00 pm, show up a few minutes earlier just to give yourself enough time to park (they do have another parking lot that's a little further away if there's not enough space at their parking lot) and get situated. They'll open the door at 1:00 pm.nn2. You'll get in line to go through the metal detector. Then you'll sit in the municipal court room and wait for the judge.nn3. When the judge calls your name, you'll be asked what you want to plead: guilty, nolo contendere (you accept your conviction (could face same fines/sentence though), but you don't admit guilt), not guilty (you would then get a date for a trial), or solicitor general (pre-trial).nn4. When my name was called, I stood and asked to speak to the solicitor general. (The best case scenario is that s/he would offer you a deal if you accept it on that day and the worst case scenario is you don't like what they're offering, at which point you would go back to the judge and plead not guilty. From what I understand (and I COULD be wrong!!), you really can't lose.nn5. I waited for 2 hours to be called back to the solicitor general's office. In the meantime, I listened to other cases.nn6. I was called back to the waiting room to sit and wait some more to be called back into the solicitor general's office.nn7. I was called back to the solicitor general's office. He asked me what I had to say to him. I explained my case. He offered to reduce my citation, my fine and the points that would go on my license.nn8. I had to either agree to his deal or not agree to it. I chose to agree. (A lawyer friend of mine told me that if the solicitor general offers you a deal, you should probably take it. Because if he offers you a deal and you don't take it and it then goes to trial, you could end up paying the same amount you were supposed to pay originally. But it's really up to you.)nn9. I went to the window and paid my fine. Case closed!nnNot everyone is as lucky, but if you have a chance to fight it, do it! Best of luck!
Very hard to see from the road, when unfamilar with the area.
