Sumter County Emergency Management

Sumter County Emergency Management does not provide FEMA training or Community Emergency Response Training for the public. I was referred to the Villages CERT which was closed due to COVID-19. In addition, giving weather radios to environmental justice (EJ) communities or low income residents is a NO CAN DO. This department doesn't network with high schools to training teens to be members of a CERT team or consider Emergency Management as a career field after graduation. There is NO PUBLIC EDUCATION INITIATIVE or outreach to create a registry of individuals who may need refrigeration of insulin or medication, transportation, or electricity to continue use of life sustaining equipment. Please consider working with schools to teach kids to pack a CERT bag and what to do and where to go if their residence was destroyed by a hurricane. Hazards: displaced wildlife, down power lines, flood water contaminants, mold, ........this department has a long way to go.
