A lot of history.
Extensive history here. This is close to homenfor us. The area here was a major dividing line between the North and the South. Spotswood furnace is in the local area here. The corner of Elys Ford Road and Plank Road was a farm that had severe casualties in one day from the war and I believe the number was 17k.
Haunting, poignant, and important to preserve. Visit often and try yo place yourself in the time or just enjoy the woods. It's a cool spot.
Had a nice walk. But would not suggest doing it during July or August.
The visitors center was closed due to minimal staffing and COVID-19. There was a Ranger that came outside to give us quick guide. There was materials outside for a self guided tours.
