I've been under Dr. G's care for almost ten years. I have horrible, osteoarthritis and he has taken very good care of me.
We went to Dr G because of a Charcot foot diagnosis. He is a very laid back, congenial person. At first. After months of debate, my mother finally decided she would have the surgery he recommended. It went well, and she had little to no pain. Once she transferred to a rehab, she was still doing ok despite the fact that she wasn't getting the care she needed. Dr G was a bit lackadaisical in his instructions to the facility which resulted in one of her incisions not healing and him having to debred it.-because as we all know, if they aren't told, staff at rehabs aren't going to do anything they aren't told to do-and sometimes even when they are told to! This was done at Maryview and she contracted MRSA-not his fault. Once again, she ended up in the hospital and had to have all that was done removed. Once that was done, he said he didn't have a lot of dealings with Charcot foot and wanted to refer us to another Dr. WTH?!?! When we came in the very first time, we already knew what she had and had told him that. That set my alarm bells off. All during this ordeal, I had been taking progress pictures both in and out of his office and the hospital, but all of a sudden, I was asked by Dr G not to take pictures while in his office and his attitude changed. I had to have FMLA forms filled out to cover me at work (since I was the sole caregiver for her) and when I went to pick them up, I informed his office staff (who were rude as heck from day one) that due to the complications from the surgeries, the MRSA, along with poor blood flow and now osteomyelitis, my mother's foot (actually up to her calf) had to be amputated and this was to be done by another surgeon. Not one word of condolence or anything was said to me. The nurse, Teresa, was the nicest, friendliest person there. I'm sure that for regular podiatry issues, Dr G is fine, just not for complicated issues.
I got to meet with Dr. Grinkewitz and his staff today. My experience went very well.
