Almost everything was either missing or damaged and there was poor communication between (the broker) Empire Movers, Prime Relocations and us. This should have been an small, easy move from Atlanta to Baltimore 6 months ago. We were charged additional amounts, the delivery notice for a date we hadn’t agreed upon was 20 minutes (we had no apartment arranged yet) and the 30 days’ free storage offer wasn’t honored. A friend had to rent a truck to bring the rest of the items up to Baltimore because the truck was too small. The movers in Baltimore insisted on a cash payment prior to unloading and required their form to be signed before inspection. Moving Claims is the company that processes the claims and the system is as bad as the move was, but they finally agreed to allow us to email documents showing damages, complaints and missing items (for as much as were able. We were offered $50, then $150 if we agreed in writing not to make complaints. We were told decisions on the claims paid were up to Prime Relocations. Empire also did not take any responsibility for damages. We’re not the only ones who complained to the Better Business Bureau.
BEWARE. These people are professional scammers!! If I could give them negative stars, I absolutely would. My partner and I initially booked our move from Atlanta to DC with a company called American Standard. We were given a quote of $2,200 for our entire move, based upon an estimate of 150 boxes. The person we booked with told us our final cost could be less, depending on how many boxes we actually had. We paid half upfront to book and were to pay the remainder on moving day. The day before the move, the company called to get our actual box count, which was 103.nnThe day of the move comes. Our first red flag was that a regular-degular enterprise truck that anyone could rent pulls up. Three men get out, smelling like straight loud pack. No company attire, just regular street clothes. We were presented with paperwork that we fully expected to say American Standard, because that’s who we called and paid. But no, it was Prime Relocations. When questioned about the change in companies, the spokesman of the group said that AS was a moving “broker” and that they had contracted them for the job. Ok, I guess.nnAfter assessing the apartment and putting stickers on our items, the talker of the group let us know that we had way more cubic footage than we were allotted on the truck, and that it’d cost us extra. We were confused because when we booked we were told the rate was based on box count. He said that he would “work with us” on the price.nnNow. I am not a professional mover, but I could absolutely tell that none of these men were either... The men packed up our belongings hastily and sloppily. There was absolutely no care in the way they handled our things, or strategy to how they packed the truck. Fragile boxes were at the bottom, crushing under the weight of heavier boxes that held things like books. At one point we witnessed a whole layer of poorly placed boxes fall ON TOP of one of the guys!!nnOnce the truck was all packed, the one that did all the talking presented us with our new total. Our second installment, which we had anticipated being no more than $1,100 had somehow skyrocketed to $3,600!! We were flabbergasted.nnAt this point the “contract” had been signed, so the man told us that we could either pay up or they’d have to leave all of our items in the parking lot of the complex. We were set to move into our new place in a matter of days, and start new jobs so we felt like there was no choice. We paid $1,800 to get them to leave and were supposed to pay the other half when they delivered.nnThe story gets wild. WILD! But for the sake of time and my fingers, I’m gonna try to make it short...Let’s just say it involves Florida, a faked death, a lawyer, and two weeks of us eating takeout on an air mattress in our empty loft.nnThe day they were supposed to deliver, no one showed up or so much as called to let us know. After a few days of repeatedly pushing our delivery date back - eventually Prime Relocations just stopped answering our calls. There came a point in time where we literally had no idea where our things were, or if we’d ever see them again. That’s when we started digging and reading, and learned that these moving pyramids are common.nnEventually, we got a lawyer involved.nnBy the end of the ordeal, we dealt with 5 different scammy companies who had just been passing our things around like beanbag. FIVE.nnEven at the point that our boxes finally showed up, we were *STILL* being extorted for more money. How someone tries to take a $2,000 move and make it over $6,000— I do not know. When we refused, they literally started throwing, and I mean HEAVING our stuff back onto the truck and threatening to leave with it all over again. It took 4 hours and a law enforcement show off to get them to relinquish our things.nnIt was literally a nightmare. By far, one of the worst experiences of my life and I don’t wish it on my worst enemy.nnWhatever you do, DO NOT BOOK THEM!!!
Terrible experience. Multiple things broken. Many things missing. Worst of all, they left many valuable items in the home we moved out of. The woman I hired to clean sent me photos asking if I meant to abandon my things - like TVs, computers, silver service, etc. They take NO RESPONSIBILITY. Stay away - stay far away!
Demanded money up front and then raised price over 60%. Failed to move on contacted date causing us to pay additional rent. Over $ 4000 of damages and lost items. They charge for insurance but it isnt really insurance. they keep the premium and unilaterally decide what they feel like paying...offering us $55 settlement after 4 months of jumping through claims hoops. Things were not packed but simply thrown into boxes - overpacked to what was delivered were crushed boxes and many broken items - mirrors, motorcycle, blown glass, and so much more. More simply didn't show up. The worst was upon arrival, the driver posted on craigslist for workers to come an unload our household goods...so we had people coming and going all evening past midnight as they didn't start until 5 p.m. We fell criminally victimized.
They moved me and my family from Georgia to Florida awesome experience very professional will definitely recommend them to anyone need to move thank you guys.
