We (my wife and I) met (virtually) with Julia less than a week ago after being referred to her with a financial/retirement concern. My wife is receiving her full pension from a former employer, a modest amount, and we wanted to invest half of it into an IRA account, and use the other half to pay off some debt.nBecause Julia took the time to get to know us, and ask us questions about our financial situation, she was able to offer us with a much better alternative - literally life-changing - that took into account our long-term goals and retirement.nSo instead of enabling us to make a less-than wise decision regarding my wife's pension, we were able to refinance our mortgage at nearly a full point off our current rate, pay off the majority (90%) of our debt AND roll over the entire amount of her pension into an IRA, saving us thousands of dollars just for that transaction alone. The refinance and payoff of debt will free up a substantial amount of our income for savings and adding more to both of our retirement accounts.nIn addition to all of this, Julia also took the time to review my 401K account and recommend some changes to my investment strategy to match my planned retirement date, and also reviewed our Social Security accounts to help us better understand how to maximize that benefit.nTo use an analogy, this was like going to the grocery store to pick up a loaf of bread, and coming out with a full cart of delicious, nutritious food (and some goodies, too!).nAmazing how much more optimistic my wife and I are feeling today compared to less than a week ago.nGetting your financial house in order is vital, no matter your age, but it's a lot of work. Stay far away. They will make serious errors that cost you, and refuse to own up to their mistakes. Last year I updated the address on my renter's insurance, seemingly a straightforward change. Julia Johnson's office emailed and called to say that the change had been made. Fast forward a year, my car was stolen. I call them, as renters insurance covers the belongings in your car. They say my policy was cancelled a year ago. I send them the emails and voicemails where they set up the new address. It is clear that John, who set it up, made an error and cancelled the policy by accident. They refuse to cover my belongings. I never would have cancelled my policy as I've had it for years. I think this is so wrong and I want to warn people: go to a different agent. Renters insurance is great but only if you can trust your agent to update your policy.nnin response to their reply below:nThey did not 'research' their error. they would not look into it, and said there was nothing that could be done, and that I had cancelled the insurance (which I did not). Only when I was able to provide evidence in the form of emails and voicemails from a year prior did they admit their error.nIn addition, they did not offer a simple solution. They said I now had a $1000 deductible, which I was not aware of since they sent it to my old address, since they never fulfilled my request to change my address. So with the deductible and paying the back insurance, the items lost were a wash.nThe main point is, they acted like I was lying even though it was their mistake. They left me thinking I had insurance when I didn't. Do you want to have to schedule 'reviews' to know that no error has been made and that you are still insured? Probably not.
