Leadville National Fish Hatchery

This was a wonderful well kept secret. We went snowshoeing there one day and cross country skiing there a second day. It was beautiful. Plenty of snow. Not crowded. Absolutely beautiful.

Great trails that go through the forest and a creek nearby. Will be back in the summer to hike to the several lakes in area.

We go here a few times a year and have a great experience every time! Make time and take the tour! It's awesome!! Bring Quarters for the fish food machines!

A very simple place. It's as it sounds, a hatchery for trout's in the Colorado mts. The area has housing for government staff but other buildings that you can walk around and read the informational boards of history and how the place works. Best part for parents the pools/troughs are outside and there's a feeding station. For 25 cents you get a hand full of feed and walk around the pools and feed the fish. My kids Love it and a simple yet memorable exp. Its free access except for the 25 pennies to feed.

It's fun for all ages! I love looking at & feeding the fish. There are nice picnic tables, easy trails, porta-potties & lots of parking
