I have been using the Macomb County Vet Center for several years now. I have had nothing but positive encounters by all the staff members. It is a relatively small staff for the services they provide. They have multiple support groups and activities like yoga and acupuncture as alternative treatments. They also spend a lot of their personal time try to put pressure on local, state and federal policy makers so services for veterans can improve.nnHaving started out at a VA hospital, Vet Centers are night and day better for helping veterans and connecting them to veterans benefits.

When I moved to Michigan in October the first thing I tried to do was set up therapy services at the Veteran Center. I was refused services and told by the Team Lead that the Veteran Center isn’t taking on new clients. Before moving to Michigan I had been using Veteran centers for almost ten years. Why would they lie and tell a veteran they aren’t taking new clients? Why?nnThe community also has a Vietnam veteran group made up of member that were also refused services by the veteran center that has been meeting for over 3 years.nnWhat exactly is the vet center doing to help veterans?nnJuly 14th 2020 Update. After 2 years of fighting tooth and nail to find a therapist. And being unlawfully denied services at this poorly staffed and untrained location I moved to the West side of michigan. I had a great therapy session today, was provided services and treat like a veteran is supposed to be treated at a vet center. This vet center needs to be inspected. What kinda vet center doesn’t staff an outreach worker? It’s almost like they only wanna work with the easy veterans. Ya know the veterans that help a vet center meet their quotas. The ones that come in their doors.nnAlso what vet center in their right might has the least qualified person on staff as the military sexual coordinator? I’m still taking about how this vet center abandoned me in therapy. Ya all need to be aware that should you mess up a Veterans Day, when they come to you asking for help because my trauma invaded my day, and ya all say “we aren’t taking on new client.” This veteran center abandoned me and still fails to take responsibility for what they did and how they continues to fail to take responsibility for mistreating veterans.nnI’m still processing the trauma how I was treated. Like Jesus. There no room at the inn.nnWhy is that?
