Took the level 3 whitewater kayaking class and it was more then just a class. It was an experience. Kelly and his staff offer a top notch experience and make Learning to kayak fun and safe. I would recommend New Mexico Kayak Instruction too anyone I know. I'm gonna take the class again!! Paddle on!!!

I am so glad to have signed up for this class! In no time, I was feeling more confident. These guys are the best! Everyone is professional, well trained, patient, and clearly passionate about kayaking. They are safety minded and geared toward helping ALL of us learn this fun sport, safely and well. Highly recommended!

I'm traveling the country in a recreation vehicle and taking kayak tours along the way. This company was excellent to deal with and the customer service was the best ever. The combination of quality, well cared for equipment and kayaking knowledge ensured we had a first rate experience.

I was interested in learning how to kayak and stumbled across the New Mexico Kayak Instruction website. I have been on numerous whitewater rafting and inflatable kayak trips. I only signed up for the Level 1 class naively thinking that would be enough to get me started. I am grateful I followed Kelly's advice and took the Level 2 class. My comfort level in a hard-shell kayak dropped significantly from being in a lake vs. river. As I practiced what we learned in the Level 1 class going down the river in the Level 2 class it became obvious why Kelly focused on technique as much as safety. Kelly's patience, ability and willingness to teach reflects his knowledge and passion for the sport. New Mexico Kayak Instruction has excellent instructors. I had a great experience and would recommend them to anyone interested in kayaking.

This was a disappointing experience for our group. While it was advertised as a balloon fiesta trip, no efforts were made to accommodate the wind patterns, timing to see the balloons or experience of the group. It was merely an attitude of "it's too bad" with various excuses that blamed the customer group as incapable. It appeared that two of the three guides were not a part of the regular staff, as they didn't seem to know each other. These two non regular staff were individually excellent, helpful, wonderful people, but as an outsider, we could see that the person in charge did not have an interest in them or us as customers. The lack of organization was evident right to the end when the lead guide didn't know how to direct us out of the water and the owner wasn't even dressed to get kayaks out of muddy water. This ended with the customer group just abandoning their kayaks on the muddy banks because the lead guide couldn't direct us and we didn't want to keep sinking in the mud. As a frequent kayaker who has bought numerous guided trips all over the world while traveling, this trip was priced nearly twice as high as other 1/2 day trips, provided the least organization although safety wasn't a main concern because the water level was so low, and while kayaking with the balloons wasn't guaranteed, no accommodations were made to even remotely make it happen. On a positive note, the people on our trip were fun to be with, helped each other out and showed genuine concern for everyone. The weather was spectacular. The river and setting was beautiful.
