Alabama Family Dentists

Haven't been to the dentist in years and my first experience back was phenomenal! My hygienist was very nice, professional, and attentive to details! She is very knowledgeable and didn't seem to mind explaining the small details of every step. That meant a lot to me. But, only after I was greeted by an awesome office staff. From start to finish it was a great experience!!! I'll be back again and have already recommended them to my family and friends.

This dentist office is exceptional from the moment you walk in the door until you leave. The front desk is caring and compassionate and concerned with your needs. They are thorough in helping and not trying to rush to get you in and out. The doctors, staff, techs, and everybody I met were very friendly and knowledgeable and wanted to help. They put me at ease during a stressful emergency visit. They gave me a plan to fix my emergency and other issues that I was hesitant to take care of before.

I called into Gardendale Family Dentist this morning to make an appointment for oral inflammation and drainage in 2 different of my mouth. The receptionist, Megan, answered and wasn't as pleasant as I hoped she'd be. She even apologized for the way she said a few things. I made an appointment and arrived at the office almost 2 hours later. I noticed there was a sign on the door that said patients were to sign, get their paperwork, and fill it out in their cars. I opened the door, walked in,and stood at the door instead of walking to the counter. Megan, the receptionist I made the appointment with over the phone, was talking to a co-worker about patients not being able to show up without appointments. Megan sounded a bit irritated but I didn't think anything of it because she was that way when I spoke to her over the phone. After she finished her conversation, she acknowledged me and I walked over to the desk and was told to sign a pad, she would give me paperwork to fill out, and to bring it back in when I finished it. I hesitated to sign the keypad because there was no hand sanitizer at Megan's desk, and she wasn't wearing any gloves. I asked her about sanitizing the pen before signing and she informed me that she is disinfecting the pen after the patient's use it. After I signed, she then handed me a thermometer and told me to take me temperature. She handed me the thermometer with no gloves. After taking my own temperature, I gave Megan the thermometer, grabbed my paperwork and walked outside. I stood there for a minute and decided to turn around and take the paperwork back to Megan. To walk into a dentist's office...someone who has to put their hands into my mouth...and not see any protective gear at the forefront just didn't sit well with me. Sanitation starts with the first point of contact. To visually not see any steps be taken towards sanitizing the materials at the front desk, before I touched them and afterwards (the thermometer and the signature pen) was enough for me to decide that wasn't the right dentist office for me...at least not during this time. Safety precautions start from the time you enter the building until the time you leave...and that's safety not only for the dentists and their staff, but for the patients as well.

I was impressed with the staff. They were very knowledgeable and did not try to talk me into procedures that I didn't necessarily need. I would recommend them to anyone who needs dental care.
