Paragon Theaters - Sandhills

Update: I left a one star review for the old Sandhills Cinema when it was in its death throes. What a piece of work that place was. Anyhow, the new owners have certainly changed things and since they are weighted down by the old reviews I am changing mine to reflect changing status. Thank you Paragon for coming in and cleaning up the hot mess that was here before.nn............................Old Review.....................nnThis is my local theater. And I have always hated it. It is unloved and apparently run by unsupervised teenagers. It is also much more expensive then theaters to the north, south, east and west of us. The popcorn and drink prices are also much higher with a corresponding opposite but equal quality. I am sitting in the theater watching Deadpool 2 at the moment and the floor and seats are nasty, the overhead lights are still on and the place stinks. Plus the sign outside the theater I’m in (7) has the wrong movie name on it. Whoever owns this theater is just screwing its customers because they can. No alternatives within miles.nnThis theater combines high cost, low quality and worst of all shows loud and clear that no one cares. I hope one day they get some quality competition and a comeuppance.

UPDATE: the previous 1 star review was for Sandhills Cinema which has, since then, been bought out by Paragon.nnParagon Cinema is amazing! Beautiful renovation and so sad that the pandemic had to happen. Cannot wait for it to open up again.nnOld review: I’m sitting here now and waiting for the movie to begin. It smells like urine and every one star review is spot on. The seats are old, the stairs held together with duct tape and did I mention the smell? So disappointing. Well at least it is in theater #5. The sound quality is ok, but the picture on the screen is slanted. I will definitely look for another theater even if I have to drive to Raleigh.

This long-standing theater has great potential since the recent remodel. They offer some very affordable options to the frugal movie-goer. I just hope they survive this pandemic and go on to prosper.

This place is INFINITELY better after the renovations. I can not stress enough how big the improvement is. But there is still lots to be done. I mean the outside looks terrible, not being picky, but some basic lawn care would do it much justice!nnThe screens I feel are a little dark too. I feel like they either intentionally turn down the brightness of the bulb in the projector, or they buy cheaper bulbs. The quality just is not that great.nnThe sound could improve a bit too. I am not asking for bass that will rumble your guts, but some better and louder speakers would be great.nnSummary: Much better, but could improve some more.
