Rolling tree-topped hills provide a beautiful backdrop to this family friendly destination. Clean and clearly of newer construction, the lodge and cabins create an inviting atmosphere. Lots of trails for both walking and biking and a great playground make this a great getaway for the entire family. Clean and we'll kept bathrooms throughout the park are definitely a plus in my book. My family and I will definitely come back. We didn't get to see any of the wild horses this trip. Next time we'll be bringing our bikes and fishing poles, as well as a cooler of food. There were several picnic and grilling areas to choose from.
We had a wonderful weekend here. Stayed at the lodge and enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. Hiked the trails in the park and enjoyed a beautiful Spring day in the Ozarks.
Beautiful state park, up in the mountains , the views are amazing.nnSo many fun and interesting things to see and do here and around the surrounding area, We could easily spend a week here and never complain of being bored ud83dude11!!
Positives:n.Pristine campgrounds with clean restrooms and shower rooms.n.Great for RV and Lodging folks.n.The water and electric outlets were well planned and laid out.n.Beautiful creek for swim and mountainous area for hikers. Close to current river.n.Very friendly staff..5 stars!n.Very short walk from the campgrounds to the creek.nNegativesn.For those just hitching your tents it may not be the best idea to book spots when temperature is above 75 degrees. There is absolutely no shade in the campgrounds.n. No Cell Network and Park WiFi is spotty.nOur experience:nWe got there just before before check in time(3 pm) and used the picnic table for cooking. Since there was no shade and the temperature was between 78-80 degrees we felt the heat and in a few minutes we got cooked as well. Then we setup the tent in the grassy area very close to another RV where members were smoking cigars. With the heat and the smell we decided to leave same evening. But before that the kids had fun time at the creek. Water was beautiful and clean and the area was so picturesque. It is a shame that we had to leave early evening because we were so tired and were heated up.nTIP: If you are just using Tents and no RV Spring/Fall probably best time to camp.nFor those getting to this State park from St.Louis or from East and travelling with kids/adults who have motion sickness. Try 44(rolla)--> 72/32--> 19 S and same way back. We used Route 68 and 19 to get to the park and it is a very narrow, roller coaster road with head spinning twists. Our kids could not wait for us to get out of 68 leave alone 19.nWe asked the Campground folks and they gave us the former route through Rolla.
So beautiful! The only down side is that the rv campground and tent campground share bathrooms. This campground needs an extra bathroom to accommodate that many campers ASAP. They probably think most RV guests will use their own showers but that is rarely the case. If you have a family of 4 in an RV, usually at least one or two will go to the bathhouse every night. It's just faster that way.
