Absolutely terrible insurance company. They cancelled my home owners insurance a month after they issued it and didn't notify me! no phone call, no email, nothing. Then, when I finally get a letter from my mortgage company saying I need insurance I call allstate and they play it off like they tried to get ahold me. I asked about getting the policy reinstated.. they said, get this, that I let the policy lapse for too long so they couldn't work with me. So they cancel it for no good reason, don't tell me anything, then blame me for letting it lapse. Stay well away from these shysters.

I had a major defect in my manufacturer home I had recently purchased. The bolts holding the two halves together were not holding and there was a 2-3 inch gap. It effected the whole house. Walls and beams and window cracking. The wall in the kitchen separated from the roof. There was damage happening every where and at a rapid pace. Randy, the agent, said he couldn't do anything until Monday, it was Saturday. He also said all he could do was file a claim and the adjuster would be there sometime but he couldn't give me a time frame. He seemed exsaperated by my questions and one of my calls he hung up on me. I called on Monday and he was upset AT me for not coming into his office that morning. I told him we never agreed to that and never set a time. He hung up. I called back, and I am upset I have been crying over the weekend. The major investment in my life, the roof over my head that I call home that I had just purchased was literally falling apart and he was rude and acted like it wasn't his problem, he told me to call Foremost the insurance agency. I could have called them Saturday, they are open 24/7. Randy let me suffer and worry for 2 days. I called Foremost they were polite and helpful, filed a claim, assigned an adjuster, and helped me find a new insurance agent. I know I was emotional, it is scary to watch your home falling apart, the place I had just put a large amount of money on and where I planned to be for along time. Randy had no compassion. The worst customer service I have ever had. He made this experience more traumatic that it needed to be! I hope no any else has to experience this!

Full disclosure: Better record keeping on my part would have caught the error sooner; However, I believe the local agent’s and the company’s response merits a warning to other consumers.nnI had motorcycle insurance through Allstate with a local agent (Machelle) (Not a typo), beginning several years ago. In February of 2016, I got a new bike and requested that coverage of my old bike be stopped at the end of the month. In March of 2016 my credit card information changed and in April I received a call requesting payment. At this time I was explicitly told that the second bike had been removed from the plan and I was only paying for the 1st bike. I said ok and absentmindedly paid the bill, resumed automatic payments and forgot about it. In February of 2017 my credit card was stolen and I received a call a month later requesting payment for my policy covering both bikes.nnAt this point I called the local agent (Machelle) who told me it was my fault the bike hadn’t been removed since I didn’t catch it earlier, despite two phone conversations where I was thoroughly reassured that this had taken place. I called the national office who told me that without a bill of sale proving I sold the bike, they were unwilling to compensate me for the error in any way.nnThe price was right for the insurance, but this experience went wrong in so many ways. What if I had a wreck and they had somehow messed up and never initiated proper coverage—Would they then leave me hanging? People make mistakes—good people correct them. I feel the mistake made was kind of large, but the response of refusing to correct it in any way is extremely disappointing—not to mention Machelle’s rude and condescending attitude.
