This was a perfect day. We wore sun screen and hats and had bug repellent which we really did not need. The train were clearly defined and the hike really a long walk. The beach was beautiful. The locals came across the dunes and joined us at the beach....awesome day...also great shelling!

All of the staff here were super helpful and very knowledgeable. They helped me find the best spots on the island for chasing down fiddler crabs with my son! They were willing and able to answer his endless stream of questions and did so with enthusiasm.

Travellers, this is gorgeous beach. It is a destination location and takes a bit of work and maybe expensive for a family to get there. The ferry tickets are $30 per person. And the ride is 45 minutes. Once there there is a 1/2 mile walk to the ocean. The walk across cumberland island is beautiful. There are ancient and gnarled live oak trees dripping with spanish moss and giant fronds all along the walk. It is enchanting. The beach itself is pristine and at low tide the beach goes out forever. The drawback is an industrial complex across the St Mary's river in Fernandina beach fl. And it is clearly seen from the beach. And when the wind blows in your direction you may get a whiff of something unseemly. But in every other angle the beach is gorgeous. Check it out. We recommend.

Ruins still convey awe inspiring architecture and glimpse of the history that it entails. Pastural setting, beautiful shoreline and wild horses add to the experience.
