I’m reporting that firefighters from station 73 helped rescue four kittens trapped in a tangle of juniper bushes on Sunday, May 19. A young woman discovered the kittens trapped inside a large hedge next to the sidewalk on McMurray Street. She was trying to help one of the kittens and it was able to crawl out to her. My husband and I stopped to assist and we got two more kittens out. The last kitten was too week to crawl out on his own and we couldn’t reach him and didn’t want to leave him there. It was Sunday and Animal Control was closed. We tried for another hour. We then called non-emergency and asked if the local fire fighters could help us out.nNon-emergency was great, the operator took our call and within minutes firefighters showed up and rescued the trapped kitten. It took them all of five minutes. Thank you so much Richland firefighters. Here’s a photo of the rescued kitten we named Tango. His vet said he was dehydrated but has made a full recovery since. We are fostering him and in a couple of weeks he and his siblings will be ready to go to forever homes. Another life saved by our amazing Richland firefighters!nnKathy and Gordie KnutsonnRichland
