Looking for Keweenaw area history lesson? Let this NPS Visitor Center be the place you start! Free, great displays, and be sure to talk to a ranger about the many other affiliated sites so you can experience history first hand.

The staff was super and very helpful. Helped us locate some key sites on the peninsula including some easy to access waterfalls. The museum was wonderful and it's free. The terrain on the Keweenaw is amazing.

I highly recommend stopping here first to get an idea of exactly what's in the area...

We drove hundreds of miles so my daughters could do the Junior Ranger program. When we arrived we found a sign on the door telling us they were closed for safety training. Knowing we were never going to travel back to this forgotten part of the world we stayed in a local hotel. The next morning we returned to the visitor center and I found out the safety training was to prepare in the event of an active shooter/terrorist attack.nGet real! No self respecting terrorist would even give the town, never mind this site, a second thought.nHow many terrorist attacks/active shooter situations have there been in any of the locations managed by the National Park Service?nIf you really believe this type of traing is neccessary, and not a waste of taxpayer money, try doing it before tourist season starts!

Very interesting history of the booming copper mining industry.
