I attended the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) course in referral from Flint Healthcare Opportunities and Flint Area Strive.nIn the beginning, I was very excited. I was so excited to be delving into this course, I even purchased multiple pharmacy books and guides, just about whatever I felt was going to prepare me for the class.nHowever, weeks and weeks advance and the students have not received the coursebook! No one can offer any kind of answer and the we students are getting understanably upset and anxious. The instructor was compelled to copy what he deemed as 'essential' information from each chapter so the students have something to reference. The rest was literally built on YouTube videos and whatever related articles from Google. Alot of students were introduced platforms such as Quizlet.nSince we did not have our books, the instructor attempted to appease us by introducing us to our practical lab section of the course, a combination of an online and installed pharmacy software application called Rx Systems, so that we may gain a simulated hands-on experience entering patient's billing and insurance information, among other features. Sadlly, this did not become a reality as the instructor learned that the licences to run the program on the lab computers were never purchased by the school, so we were left with an incomplete online template of examples of filled prescription orders.nBy the time we finally received our books and guides, well over 7 weeks had passed. The other points of the course, such as various pharmacy calculations, were hastily covered. Other topics and advertised points of the course, such as non-sterile compounding or introductions of aseptic techniques were never covered. The overall preparation of the PTCB just wasn't there. It would have been helpful to have a hands-on experience with a Laminar Flow Workbench or be able to compound a medication. I passed the class to be placed into an externship at a Walgreen's pharmacy not feeling confident to apply what I had learned in class. Luckily, I found employment at a local pharmacy that had nice and patient staff. My only saving grace was that I procured good books before I started and the collaboration of some other dedicated students while in class.nI am grateful for the opportunity, but the class was extremely lacking and did not at all meet my expectations.
