Absolutely beautiful park! The dunes are so impressive. We didn’t hike on the trails because of the heat, but they looked fun and varied. We were on the West beach. The beach has lifeguards on duty and the buoys mark a large area in Lake Michigan. The swim area doesn’t get very deep...I came within about 10 feet of the buoy and the water was about 4 1/2 feet deep. It was a calm day on the lake when I was there. The beach was clean and wasn’t over crowded. The beach has clean bathrooms, clean showers, and a concession stand.

OMG I am sad that I waited so late to go visit the dunes I heard about it when I was in college when I was online or pledging. But didn't go until 20 years later. No doubt bring your walking shoes if you need oxygen bring that too bring lunch and something to drink because the walk if you go up the stairs and you're not in shape you'll need to breathe but once you get there it is so so beautiful and the serenity of the Waves crashing against the land and the people are awesome and the sand is beautiful not like Chicago ugly sand don't get in that sand you might find a body or some sharp glass.

Great beach! It's a bit of a walk from the parking lot and there are stairs going down to the beach. There are restrooms and a concession stand. A great place to spend a day. There are also plenty of hiking trails going through the dunes.
