Thompson Town Cemetery is on the N side of US-82 W between County Rd 2123 & Farm Rd 2573 thru a private pasture about ¾ miles. In the old Batesville Community. Original deed transaction dated 21 Mar 1898 church & cemetery from R. R. Gaines to Thompson Lewis School.nPretty decent drive up thru the pasture & along the back side of a large stock-pool. One you reach the name-gate over the cemetery entrance, you notice most of the cemetery's got chain-link perimeter fence - somewhat overgrown. Grounds look semi-regularly mowed-n-trimmed, but not neglected.nᗝ Some recent headstones, some old, some well-kept, some show signs of declining w/age or neglect, & some have been accidentally or maliciously broken-off. Not all markers are stones.n† Several wood markers of all shapes & sizes where the I.D. paint has weathered away.nᗜ It seems there are a few unmarked & marked-w/natural-stones (deliberately chosen & placed) burial sites.n❓Name Confusion ↝ The green state sign out front says ❮Thompson-Townes Cemetery ⇨❯. The ranch-style welded name-gate over the cemetery entrance says ⸨Thompson Town⸩. Several obituaries on the internet refer to it as ◖Thompson Towne Cemetery◗. Wonder what it really is...❓n† According to Find•A•Grave there are 265 burials here. (April 2019)n† Thompson Town Cemetery is a traditionally black cemetery.
