I took my dog in just for a rabies shot. I do not vaccinate my dog for things like bordetella simply because it is not necessary for their living situation. I only vaccinate for distemper ONE time in my dogs’ life because studies show a single vaccination for that is enough to protect a dog for life. Over vaccinating dogs can harm their immune system and do more harm than the illness they claim to prevent. We stick to the most natural care plan as possible for our dogs. We do not give them heartworm, flea, or tick preventatives either due to one of them having issues with seizures caused by them in the past. We use all natural topical repellents (essential oils)instead and have never had an issue since. They are even fed a completely human grade raw diet. Whether any of that is proven to be true or not, this is how we care for our dogs as we believe it is best for them and we have every right to choose how we care for our dogs. The Vetco employees were extremely pushy about wanting to put my dog on heartworm preventatives and do every other vaccine they could. They tried to pressure us into it by saying how often the heartworm tests come out positive (as my dogs came out negative). I told them multiple times that they can give me all the info they want but I will be researching everything at home after, I will not agree to anything right now. They just kept trying to make the sale and the girl that the vet sent over to us was telling us things about heartworm that weren’t even true!! Vetco services are absolutely disgusting for trying to pressure me into something after I even said I’d take the info and research it later. They are more concerned about the sales than the dogs. I’m sorry I even let them do my dog’d rabies shot today. I’d rather pay a vet a $70 exam fee plus the shot to at least take her somewhere where they care about her wellbeing rather than making a sale.
