Our family of five (children ages 4, 6, 8) took a guided tour of this house. It started with a short and informative movie about the life of Scott Joplin, and then a very nice and experienced guide took us around the upper floors of the house where he was a border. The tour concludes with a live performance of one of his pieces on a player piano! The volunteers here were very nice and well-informed. prices were $8 per adult, $4 per child for the tour. I'm not sure how much of the house you can see without a tour.

Not much to see right now. Covid has everything closed so all you can do is look at the exterior. Neighborhood is a little sketchy.

We didn't know much about Scott Joplin, the Rag King. We stopped in because we were nearby. When we left we felt like we were given a gift to know much, much more of this extraordinary innovator of a style of music, which is the root of all American music.nnI don't know if it was part of the program or we were lucky when at the end of the tour we were blown away by Royson (hope I spelled that correctly) performance of Pineapple Rag and his musical tutorial. His personality, knowledge, passion and his talent blew us away.

If you like history you will love this. They even used a player piano at the end of the tour with real Scott Joplin rolls. Very cool.

This is a great museum in the heart of St Louis. Very interesting displays about the life of one of the best African American composers this country has ever known. It's a treat to take the guided tour and learn more about his life and work. There is a piano roll in the museum, and you might get a demo of it if you take the guided tour. Lots of fun. Really friendly staff.
