I've just read the sad article that Laurel Cemetery, a large African American cemetery, was located on this lot before the shopping center was built. The land owners filed for bankruptcy and the land was slated for development. Gravestones were removed in the 1960s and the community was told that the bodies had been relocated. But ground penetrating radar of the parking lot today shows that there are lots of graves still intact, underneath the parking lot. The ground beneath the mall is full of human remains.
