Looking for a free activity in St. Augustine? Check out the Governor’s House. It gives you a glimpse into the history of America’s oldest. The center houses tools and materials brought by the Spaniards. The plus is that it is less crowded than the Castillo museum.

Great, free self-guided museum. Lots of artifacts and plenty of information on the local history.

So the Spanish settled St Augustine 42 years before the British settled Jamestown ... Amazing!nnThis exhibit tells the story of how hard it was and includes details about Native Americans and slaves too, quite rare in our Colonial-dominated culture.nnWell done University of Florida! I cannot recommend this exhibit highly enough!!!

Me and my friend stopped here after driving, needing to use the public restroom located inside the building. The individual restroom was locked and the women’s restroom was closed, and it was an emergency. There was no one in the men’s restroom, and it was an individual closed private restroom, so my friend watched the door while I went so we would not catch anyone off guard. In the middle of doing my business the bathroom attendant would not stop banging on the restroom door and yelling at me to get out. I yelled can I please get my shorts on first and he yells I don’t care get out. I left and went in the individual stall that was finally not locked, but I was extremely humiliated. Seriously? It was an emergency, and no one was in there. we were not disturbing anyone. Honestly it was extremely humiliating and I hope someone takes the correct steps to retrain this employee.
