I am writing in reference to an incident that occurred on August 1st, 2019.nnWhile vacationing in Hawaii on the island of Honolulu we were a witness to a horrible scene of a male adult that was unresponsive. The ocean was extremely violent due to a pending hurricane that was approaching the island ( Hurricane Eric) signs were posted on the beach and it was quite obvious that people were not taking these posted signs serious.nnThe male adult was somehow pulled from the ocean and the lifeguards stationed between the Moana Surf Rider and the Waikiki Out Rigger were working feverishly to bring life into this gentleman. What I observed was complete professional and relentless dedication to the preservation of life. These lifeguards worked in complete conjunction with each other and never gave up. Each lifeguard appeared to have a specific task and demonstrated confidence in the manner in which they were working. At no time did they give up on this gentleman and the Lifeguard that appeared to be in charge appeared to I instructed exactly what each lifeguard was supposed to do. I counted 5 lifeguards in total but two other individuals appeared to be local workers that assisted pushing the onlooking crowds to back up. One Lifeguard was communicating on a radio, one Lifeguard was pumping air in the man's lungs, one Lifeguard appeared to be removing seawater with a type of apparatus, the other Lifeguard was (what appeared to me) as if to monitor his pulse, and the Lead lifeguard was in charge of all this. In the background I could hear an ambulance arriving. This was such a horrible scene, I kept thinking that this man was someones father, brother, husband. This was not a scene for weak minded, it was quite sad and after what felt like 5 minutes a loud cough came from the unresponsive male. The crowd of people were exuberant with cheers but because of my overhead view from the hotel I knew he was still not out of the woods. They continue to work on him as the ambulance arrived. More and more water continued to foam out of his mouth. Finally It appeared as if he was back, still very bad but back.nnI writing this to commend the Lifeguards at that this tower. The professional, dedication and preservation of life I witnessed can not be described in words. Gentleman stand proud of what you did this day. You are heros to someones family. To the State of Hawaii please recongnize these Gentleman for what they did. They are truly the example of what people should be made of.nnMay God continue to bless all of you and watch over you while helping others.nnSincere Regards, Ray
