Smoky Mountain Campground, Castle Rocks State Park

Had a great time! Only wish we knew ahead of time the day water was turned off until May 1 (we were expecting flush toilets, showers and water connection for our trailer, we can rough it, but made it more difficult since we had to make a few trips to the visitor center to get out water... Would have helped to have it published more on the reservation website). This was our first trip, and loved exploring the City of Rocks!

This was a great place in many respects. The campsites were clean and reasonably private. There is trash and recycling available and the bathrooms are nice and clean. Both City of Rocks National Monument and Castle Rock State Park are close by and beautiful. The biggest negative of this campground is the flies. We were there in early October and at night the flies were not an issue. I assume because it was too cold. However, once the sun was up for a few hours there were more flies than I thought would be possible. The upside is that they don't bite, but they are obnoxious.

Great campground. Would give 5 stars but didn't because showers were closed and the bugs were kind of bad. However the spaces are far apart and private. They offer water and power and the drive is paved. I wish this campground was closer to home. The area nearby was pretty but lacked many amenities and activities besides rock climbing. I can check this place off my list and no need to revisit but a great campground nonetheless.

Very clean and quiet. Alot of flies due to horses. Also shade us questionable. Close to city of rocks. Don't miss that place!

Great location with easy access to the reserve and state park. Camp hosts were very nice and helpful. Sites were serviced with W/E. Only downside was that the dump station was closed for repairs. I assume this is temporary. There is so much to see and explore; we can't wait to go back.
