John Jarvie Historic Ranch

Very knowledgeable person taking care of the ranch. Jamie was able to answer every question we had and had extensive knowledge of the ranch the surrounding area and so much history! She is awesome! She could use some help and certainly more funding. It would be well spent!

We came in a day they were closed but the ranger was amazing and opened the buildings for us. We are from the Jarvie family and we appreciate her extra efforts so much. The ranch was so cool.

When I was young I remember coming here on school field trips. I recommend seeing the dugout cabin because it gives you an idea of how pioneers lived. And it was always fun to learn about John Jarvie. The history of the ranch is enticing and in some ways representative of the diverse character of the Wild West. There were outlaws, mountain men, and Utes who all lived in the area and would interact with one another.

Our favorite part of the ranch was the docent/ranger. She was extremely personable and knowledgeable. Wish we had gotten her name.☹ufe0f We appreciated her suggestion to return to Vernal via the swinging bridge and Crouse Canyon. Cannot believe John Jarvie and his wife lived in that dugout for a year!!!!

If you like history, there is plenty of it to find here. Very cool occupying the same space as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid!
