Great place to SUP or kayak.

Got chased and cornered by two loose dogs with collars that said ‘I’m okay’. They crossed a canyon to come growl, bark and chase us to our car. Still wouldn’t leave even then and chased the car. Not a safe place to bring your dog. Traumatic experience for us and our dog

Great place to visit with the family and isolated from the big cities of Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Great campgrounds and rarely full. Too bad the lake levels are so low as to make the boat ramps almost unusable. If you bring a boat, be ready to go off the end of the ramp and into the rocks to launch and recover. Write your representatives and ask if a small bit of water can be held back to make it more useful for recreation, wildlife, and the environment. Seems a no brainer that it is for water storage, so store more!

The best time to enjoy Lake Abiquiu is 2:30 a.m. The feeling is truly sublime, unlike any experience in the world.
