Stanford is a small town without a stoplight. Its business center is a small strip along Rt. 82. There's an incredible farm store that is open 5 days a week (Big Rock Community Farms Market), a few excellent antique shops including Bowen Barn and Bulls Head Treasures, a mom & pop hardware store (Roosters) with a pet rooster out front, a family owned pharmacy, and a handful of restaurants including Coyote Flaco Stanfordville which has lively Friday Nights with live music, and San Mateo Pizzeria. This town is definitely off the beaten path, which is a plus for a lot of folks (like me!) and while it doesn't offer too many amenities, for those seeking peace and quiet in beautiful nature, with lots of hikes in and around the town, it's perfect. And there are several other awesome small towns nearby.

Corrupt police officers, town prosecutor, town clerk, and judge...beware when traveling in and around the area, including the 1 mile stretch of the taconic which it borders. The officers are constantly giving out speeding tickets and the town charges close to $300 per ticket even if reduced to parking violation.
