I brought my two young sons to the Chesterfield Farmer's Market and saw that the doors were open at the fire station. My youngest LOVES fire trucks and fire fighters so we headed over. It is always uncomfortable approaching somewhere you weren't invited, but the guys here welcomed us in right away. They were so kind; really good upstanding guys. There were visiting firefighters from the Spofford station too (thank you Chris!). I was very impressed by the camaraderie and good nature that I witnessed in my short time there. The fire captain explained how they bring stuffed toys on calls to comfort traumatized children. They talked of needing to make quick, life-saving choices and having trust in each other. Men like these are the backbones of communities and I feel very lucky to have met them. And I feel much safer knowing that they are the ones who will be by my side in case of an emergency.
