COVID 19 vaccines I get the the 70 and over and health care. But at some point we need to move on. Think about most 70 years old get sick is not because of them going out and parting. It s there family member or some one close that is younger who is out and about all day! Who goes to see their love ones who than spreads it to them. So the US and Maine CDC have priorities mix up. They should use common sense.
Dr Shaw and all involved in deciding how the vaccines are given out.i just see a segment on the news about the teachers union pushing for there shots early as essential workers if they get them then I feel everyone else out there that are considered essential workers and others with health issues should be considered on getting the shot earlier also thank you for all the hard work the sec and all involved are doing
Dr. Nirav Shah and the team at Maine CDC have been doing an extraordinary job taking care of our state, and coordinating with Governor Mills to implement policies that limit the spread of the Sars2 virus while trying to thread the needle of maintaining some economic activity. The problem is that there really are no good answers to both stop the virus from cutting a deadly swath through our state while allowing all businesses to stay open.nnI have the vantage point of having been a frontline bedside registered nurse during the earliest years of the AIDS epidemic. I was recruited into an AIDS specialty unit before the way that virus was transmitted was known, and I worked there for seven years knocking out 12 and 16 hour shifts. I saw, simply and factually, HUNDREDs of deaths during those years. I wish that hospitals could give a tour of CoVid specialty units to all those who doubt the degree of serious illness that can occur, and what actual death really looks like. Because honestly, if the only death you have ever seen is a person in a casket made up by a skillful mortician, then you really have zero understanding of how grim and grinding an ICU CoVid death really is.nnThe truth is, in this pandemic we are actually dodging a major bullet. With such a bizarrely insidious transmissibility, if the lethality rate were only 1 or 2 percentage points higher, we would be facing mind-boggling consequences and deaths. It's bad enough as it is, and our numbers are as low as they are ONLY because of the leadership of the Maine CDC, their efforts at containment and contact tracing, and Governor Mills and her staff. If you want an example of how it could be, just look at the spread from the Millinocket wedding, to date with 176 infections and 7 deaths. We have to stay the course folks, and stay healthy and protect the health of others, and bring this virus under control, and do our best to support local businesses in the ways that we can.
The CDC has a thankless job. The President's administration should be compensating businesses and individuals that have to close or are impacted. But, the state CDC is doing its job to protect us. I am grateful for the thorough daily reports. Maine has done exemplary work to protect its largely elderly population. Look at the US map of COVID outbreaks and deaths. We are a good place to be because the CDC and Governor are doing their jobs.
I can't believe we shut down the state. We should have offered testing and a $500 voucher for out-of-state visitors!nn300+ Mainers died of the flu in 2017... We could do all kinds of mitigation without shutting the state down. Janet Mills deserves to be punished!
