Spent a week in Maine with my wife, a few days in Bar Harbor, Portland and York and our meal at Salt and Steel was the best of our trip. We did the 4 course meal and each part was better than the next. The home made pasta was fabulous and the cocktails were excellent as well. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We started our meal outside but it became very cold/windy and the staff moved us inside without hesitation. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting bar harbor.

Great food, awesome atmosphere! My wife had the kale ceasar and I had the charred octopus to start. Both were delicious. For dinner, i had the glazed duck while my wife had the cacio e pepe. Once again, for was amazing. The place has a very small town neighborly vibe. Only small annoyance we had was that our waitress was playing both bartender and waitstaff for the restaurant. As a result it took a long time to place our food order.

I was attracted to the Salt & Steel for their tasting menu and was not disappointed. You select an appetizer, pasta, main course and dessert. I found the vegetables accompanying the dishes to be fresh and particularly good. The scallop was plumb and tasty as were the mussels.nnOverall, I thought this was one of the better higher end dining experiences you will find in Bar Harbor. This reminded me of a restaurant you would find in NYC rather than a summer tourist destination. Worth the visit, provided you have the funds.you hav you have the funds.

Great main dishes but the desert was a letdown. We liked the mains so much we skipped ordering starters and just got three mains to split between two people. Very happy with our choices with the butter poached Maine lobster as the star. Best dish by far although the Char Siu duck breast and brazed pork belly were pretty good as well.nnThe only disappointment was the dark chocolate cremeux which was bland and uninteresting.

Couldn't recommend it enough! My husband and I tried the tasting menu and wine pairing. Everything was cooked and presented beautifully. We thoroughly enjoyed the variety of offerings, atmosphere, and service. We will definitely be back for another round! Thank you for making our celebration so special!!
