Informative very nicely preserved if you have never seen a small town train station this would be the one to see.

Nashville, Ill.'s Old L&N Depot is one of a handful of historic buildings that are owned by the Washington County Historic Society (the others are the Historic Society Museum on Kaskaskia Street and the McKelvey Schoolhouse on the north side of IL-15 just to the west of Nashville).nA handful of years ago, the Depot, though in possession of the Historic Society, was in extremely rundown condition. However, a very generous posthumous donation by Velva Jankowski and hundreds of hours of work by members of the Historic Society headed up by retired carpenter Gary Farris allowed for the Depot to be fully restored.nNow, the Depot is full of various historic artifacts, many related to all of the various rail lines that do or did criss-cross Washington County, some items related to railroads in general, and other items still just related to Washington County history (for instance, as this is being written - August, 2017 - there is an exhibit of local military uniforms and keepsakes, and it will remain on display into the fall of this year).nThe Historical Society opens the Depot (and the Museum on Kaskaskia Street) to visitors every Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. The McKelvey Schoolhouse is open occasionally and by appointment. Facilities are open for longer hours during special events, like the Fall Festival in September. The Depot is also open regularly during the month of December, when the building plays host to Santa Claus, a joint effort of the Washington County Historic Society and The Nashville Chamber of Commerce. Children can visit with Santa for free and parents can check out the Depot while they do. For Santa hours, contact the Chamber of Commerce in December or check local news sources.nFor more information on the Depot and The Washington County Historical Society, follow them on Facebook, or head to either the Depot or the Museum on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. to see the buildings or to speak with a historical society member.
