(MY EXPERIENCE & MY OPINION).... Athens Police department is actually the most patient & understanding law enforcement I've encountered ad of yet!!!!!nThey defenantly have my respect!!!! They don't harass & their not crooks w/a badge! They seem to be really helpful & good country folks!!!! Thanks guy's....& gal's!!!!!

To start off with, I was a Texas peace officer for many years. In the several months I have now lived in Athens, I think I have seen a patrol car actually driving around twice. This town is ghetto and they don't seem to care to do anything about it.nnI constantly have cars booming their music, reverberating through our house, but they are on the main highways, well over 100 feet away. There is no way a patrol would not hear this if they were actually driving around. Athens does have a city ordinance against this and there is also a state law. If you call, they won't do anything.nnI also had to call the animal control once for stray dogs in my backyard. I called in the morning, before I left for work, and when I return later that afternoon the dogs were still loose. I called back and the guy just said he hadn't gone over there yet, with no explanation for why.nnIf I would have checked the statistics before hand, I would have known that this town's crime rate is well above the national average, which is sad for a small town. The leadership in this place seems pathetic.

While leaving for church Sunday morning my wife noticed a man walking down our street who clearly didn't belong, as she turned off of our street the man began to walk on to our property she immediately called Athens PD, they arrived less than 5 minutes later and addressed the situation. Thanks for being responsive and very fast. Back the Blue!

Was at Wal mart, dark, raining and freezing cold. The place was almost deserted, my family was checking out so I pulled up in front of the doors to get them, Athens Police pull up and tell me It's a five hundred dollar fine to park there. Very rude and hateful to the point where i was wondering if there was something else going on, i apoligized and moved into a parking space in the lot. He then circles the lot and parks exactly where i was stopped. I walk up to escort my family to my truck. He gets out of his patrol car, walks past two other vehicles doing the exact same thing i was, ignoring them, gives me a hateful look and walks into the store. I guess he really wanted that spot...
